Drone wedding coverage

Drone wedding coverage in Brazil is an add-on to wedding photography or videography in which a separate, insured pilot flies for 180 minutes of the day, priced from $600 for 40 edited aerial photos and a 2- to 3-minute aerial film delivered within 3 weeks. It shows what no ground camera can: the ceremony set against the sea in Trancoso or Búzios, the guests walking up from the beach, a fazenda in the hills, the couple alone on a sandbank at low tide. It is not a replacement for a photographer or a videographer, and it works to the same timeline as both.

The guests decide how the drone flies. ANAC’s RBAC nº 100, in force since 16 June 2026, keeps a drone at least 30 m horizontally from anyone who is neither involved in the flight nor has expressly agreed to it. A guest can give that consent, but the regulation is plain that each person who does takes the risk on personally, so a wedding drone is not flown over the aisle or the dance floor. Ceremony shots are taken from the side and from height, launched from a spot the venue approves, and the closest passes are kept for the couple, who are part of the operation.

The venue decides whether the drone can fly at all. Under DECEA’s ICA 100-40, airports and helipads are surrounded by flight restriction zones, and a flight inside one needs a Termo de Coordenação and at least 4 calendar days’ notice in SARPAS; some beach resorts and city hotels sit inside one. SARPAS accepts requests no earlier than 90 days ahead, so the pilot checks the address when you book and files in the final three months. Venues add their own rules on top, and some do not allow drones at all, so name the venue when you enquire.

Light and weather decide the hours. A drone may fly after dark in Brazil only with navigation lights, and the 30 m distance from guests still applies, so the 180 minutes are usually placed around the arrivals, the ceremony and the portraits in the last light, leaving the party and any fireworks to the cameras on the ground. ICA 100-40 forbids flying in rain, strong wind or fog, and coastal wind can ground a drone on a clear afternoon; because a wedding cannot move, what happens if the drone cannot fly is written into the agreement before booking.

Questions about drone wedding coverage

Can drone wedding coverage be booked on its own?

Drone wedding coverage is an add-on to wedding photography or wedding videography, not a replacement for either: a separate pilot flies for 180 minutes of the day and delivers 40 aerial photos and a 2- to 3-minute aerial film. The pilot works to the same timeline as the photographer and the videographer, and the three plan the ceremony shots together.

Will the wedding drone fly over our guests?

A wedding drone in Brazil keeps at least 30 m horizontally from anyone who has not expressly agreed to the flight, under ANAC’s RBAC nº 100. Guests can give that consent, but each one takes the risk on personally, so drone wedding coverage frames the ceremony from the side and from height, launched from a spot the venue approves and away from the aisle.

Can the drone film the party or fireworks after dark?

DECEA’s ICA 100-40 allows a drone to fly at night only with navigation lights, and the 30 m distance from guests who have not consented still applies. In practice the 180 minutes of drone wedding coverage are placed around the arrivals, the ceremony and the couple portraits in the last light, and fireworks are left to the cameras on the ground.

Can a drone fly at a wedding venue near an airport?

Aerodromes and helipads in Brazil are surrounded by flight restriction zones under DECEA’s ICA 100-40, and a drone flight inside one needs a Termo de Coordenação and at least 4 calendar days’ notice in SARPAS. Requests open only 90 days ahead, so for drone wedding coverage the pilot checks the venue at booking and files in the final three months.

What if wind grounds the drone on our wedding day?

A wedding date cannot move for the weather, and coastal wind in Búzios or Jericoacoara can ground a drone on a clear afternoon. What happens if drone wedding coverage cannot fly, including whether any part is replaced or repaid, is set out in writing before booking, so the answer is known before the day rather than argued on it.
