Wedding videography

Wedding videography in Brazil is a full wedding day filmed by a videographer and edited into one film of 6 to 8 minutes, priced from $2,000 for 8 hours of filming and delivered within 8 weeks. The film follows the day in order — getting ready, the entrance of the padrinhos, the ceremony, the portraits, the toasts and the first hours of the party — and keeps its real sound: the vows in your own voices, a speech that made the room laugh, the band when the dance floor fills. The price is a starting quote, because a second camera, a welcome dinner or extra hours change the work.

Filming a wedding in Brazil: sound, music and the edit

Sound is what separates a wedding film from a slideshow, and on the Brazilian coast it is also what fails first. A ceremony on the sand in Trancoso, Búzios or Jericoacoara is filmed against wind and surf, so the vows go onto a lavalier microphone with a wind cover rather than the camera, and a second recorder sits by the speakers for the toasts. The videographer asks the sound supplier, a week or more ahead, whether a feed from the mixing desk is possible. In a fazenda in the countryside or a ballroom in São Paulo the risk turns around: echo, and a band louder than the speeches.

Where the ceremony happens decides the paperwork. In Rio de Janeiro, Decreto nº 49.283/2021 exempts the filming of a wedding ceremony held in a private area from municipal filming authorisation, so a hotel, a house in Santa Teresa or a private venue needs nothing from the city for the camera. A ceremony on a public beach or square brings together guests beyond the crew, which the same decree treats as an event, and that authorisation is the organiser’s to obtain. Inside a federal park, the Instituto Chico Mendes de Conservação da Biodiversidade (ICMBio) lets anyone film where and when the park is open to visitors; anything else needs its free special image-capture authorisation.

The film is cut to licensed music. A wedding film shared online with an unlicensed commercial song can be muted or blocked by the platform, so a track you love is used only if it can be licensed for that use; otherwise the videographer proposes a licensed piece with the same feel. Raw footage and an uncut ceremony are not part of the package unless they are agreed in writing before booking. If you want the coastline and the arrival of the guests seen from above, drone wedding coverage is a separate add-on flown by an insured pilot; if the night is a party rather than a wedding, event videography is built for 5 hours.

Questions about wedding videography

Why book a wedding videographer in Brazil as well as a photographer?

Wedding videography keeps what a photograph cannot: the voices during the vows, the samba the band starts after dinner, the noise of the guests when the couple walks out. The videographer is a second person with a separate camera and microphones, and the 8 hours of filming become one edited film of 6 to 8 minutes rather than a gallery.

Will our vows be audible at a beach wedding in Trancoso or Búzios?

Wind and surf are what spoil the sound of a beach ceremony in Trancoso, Búzios or Jericoacoara, so wedding videography does not rely on the camera microphone: a lavalier microphone with a wind cover goes on one partner or the celebrant, and a second recorder sits by the speakers for the toasts. Ask your sound supplier before the day whether the videographer may take a feed from the mixing desk.

Does wedding videography include the raw footage or the full ceremony?

Wedding videography here delivers one edited film of 6 to 8 minutes. The raw footage and an uncut recording of the whole ceremony are not part of it unless both sides agree to them in writing before booking, because each adds days of editing; ask for them at the quote stage if you want the full vows or every toast kept.

Does filming a wedding in Rio de Janeiro need a city permit?

Rio de Janeiro’s filming decree, Decreto nº 49.283/2021, exempts the filming of a wedding ceremony held in a private area, so wedding videography at a hotel, a house or a private venue in Rio needs no municipal filming authorisation. A ceremony on a public beach or square has guests beyond the crew, which the decree treats as an event, so its authorisation belongs to whoever organises the wedding.

Why does a wedding film take 8 weeks?

A wedding film is delivered within 8 weeks because the work after the day is long: reviewing every camera, syncing the separate audio of the vows and toasts, licensing the music, matching the colour of sun, shade and candlelight across scenes, and mixing the sound so a speech is clear over the band. The edited film arrives through a private download link.
